Pope Benedict XVI Speaks at UN, plus many other Special Events.

Invited to speak at the United Nations the Pope was also on a whirlwind tour of D.C. and New York, meeting with President Bush and an audience of 12,000 on White House lawn. saying Mass for capacity crowd of 48,000 at the National Stadium in D.C. mass at St. Patrick's in NY, mass for capacity crowd of 57,000 at Yankee Stadium, praying at Ground Zero and meeting with relatives of 9/11 victims, conducting a Youth Rally to thousands, visiting a synagogue and Orthodox Christian Church, meeting with religious leaders from other faiths, speaking to Catholic university educators, and surprising many with several direct references and an apology for the priest sex-scandals of recent years as well as surprising many with mention of the 'sinister,' years of the 'monster Nazi regime in Germany, Church summary of papal visit here.

Approx. 25% of the United States is Catholic. The Pope specificially critized the Iraq War, the use of so-called 'harsh interrogration techinques" Snd spoke in favor of immigration and the life of the unborn.

China says it's ready for dialogue with Dalai Lama

Beijing had accused the Dalai Lama of “masterminding” the unrest in Tibet and of seeking to split Tibet from China and said the violence in Tibet was part of a bid for independence and to ruin the Beijing Olympics.

The Dalai Lama said he supported the Beijing Olympics and was saddened by recent anti-Chinese protests that marred the torch relay through the streets of London, Paris, and San Francisco.

The Dalai Lama threatened to resign as leader of Tibet’s exiled government if violence in Tibet went “out of control.” but also ruled out any more “concessions” to China on Tibet, details.

Speaking to thousands this week in Ann Arbor, the Dalai Lama called for the respect of different cultures and religions, saying that no one tradition is superior to another, details.
