Chavez linked to rebels; US response feared.This week, The Wall Street Journal published a report that said it discovered computer files suggesting close ties between Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and rebels attempting to overthrow Colombia's government. This would heighten the chances that the U.S. could sanction Venezuela as a state sponsor of terror; Venezuela is one of the U.S.A.'s biggest oil suppliers. Crude oil futures soared for a fifth day. The U.S. currency has fallen 10% since September "If we put on sanctions, I'm sure Chavez would threaten to cut off our oil supply," said Phil Flynn, an analyst at Alaron Trading Corp.
