There were a lot of poll reports this July 4th national holiday weekend. It was reported on CNN this weekend:
Founding fathers would be disappointed in America
There are so many polls on so many things that it was tempting to brush this off. There was a poll on what presidential candidate people would invited to a July 4th cookout, here.
A poll about how higher gas prices would affect July 4th travel, here
A July 4th Online Poll: Which Dish Is Most American? It's not to late to cast your vote and when you cast your vote you get to see the results. So far Hot dogs are tied with Corn on the cob and that surprises me.
Another poll on The Political Knowledge of Americans. Actually it seemed more like a questionnaire and needless to say, we did not come off to well. Although, fortunately at least, it was only one person who though Angelinia Jolie was the Chancellor of Germany.
But through this hailstorm of national polls and our never ending obsession with what we think and what we think about ourselves the Founding Father's poll was rather disappointing.
It was disappointing and shocking to read that 70% of Americans would think their Founding Father's would disapprove of American today. Sad --- but true.
We need to elect better leaders.
There is actually a musical - 1776 - about the Founding Fathers writing the Constitution. It's half hilarious but also informative. It certainly can't be taken seriously. But it was surprising how many good points it touched upon: love, dedication, special interests, regular men contending with extraordinary risk and change.
It wasn't easy and astounding to think that 13 separate colonies came to a unanimous agreement which risked their very lives. They must have had a lot of faith and hope and something big they believed in.
1776 - Editing the Declaration |

The United States of America is not a 'lost cause,' if men and woman still speak and act for it's benefit and hope. There are many great ideals wrapped up in this nation as well as great achievements and good lives.
It's not a lost cause until we say it's a lost cause.
With so much inspiring beliefs, hope, life and deaths, it might be good to remember that renovations are done everyday. Thomas Jefferson wrote a great Decelartion, then it was ripped apart with conflicting interests; then it was put back together again. Some things
imperfect, but a better nation than what was before, with: Freedoms. Democracy. Civil Rights. A pretty good deal and we should keep it going, keep it's vitality. We should make it better.
They had to keep their eye on the ball. Had to get to the basket. Had to score, no matter how imperfect it might have been at time. Let's renew the dream!
