In the speech Robert Kennedy gave on the day Martin Luther King, Jr. was shot --- just two (2) months before he would be killed himself -- Robert said his favorite poet was Aeschylus.
Aeschylus wrote: "In our sleep, pain which cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart until, in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom through the awful grace of God."
It seems we can not avoid the pain and suffering of the world nor it's hate, greed and violence; but we can be purged by it all and perhaps in some way that is one of the great aspects of our humanity.
We may not reach our destinations or live out our fondest dreams and desires but we do choose what road we're on. We do choose how we travel and who we go with, and what we can make and create for ourselves and others. |
NATO WANTS THE WORLD. BUT REAL LEADERS WANT PEACE, FREEDOM, OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL.
ORGANIZATIONS LIKE NATO scare me. All these men in stern suits sitting around a table like they want to cut up the world into pieces of pie. And that's what they do.
VOICES OF HOPE AND LIBERATION become all the more impressive and inspirational when you consider all the odds that are against them, the death threats they get practically everyday, the spying and harrassement of governments that also haunt and follow them every day, the slander and mud smearing that everyday tries to bring them down and
destroy their dreams and efforts. Yet they keep on.
Some men take silence and turn it into great symphonies, despite the fact they may have sorrows in their lives, they create beauty.
Most of us, men and woman, black and white, etc. are neither going to slice up the world into pieces of pie or make music that will rock the world. Yet, in our own way in our own lives we can lean one way or the other.
It's sad -- and shattering -- to see voices of hope shot down and it makes it all the more inspiring that these voices every spoke up at all, ever went through such a rough journey for our sakes, for the betterment of humanity.
