Major Investigations

Three major investigations have confirmed false intel.
Several other investigations have filled in valuable details.

The Downing Street Memo:

"...the intel, intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy."

Dept. of Defense Investigation

There was an office set up in the Pentagon that was submitting false information to the White House outside of normal intel, intelligence community procedures: the Defense for Policy Group OSP - 'Office of Special Plans'

U.S. Senate intel,intelligence Committee

"intel, intelligence was unsubstantiated, contradicted, or even non-existent.+

The U.S. Senate intel, intelligence Committee Report, Part 2. (Conclusion)

released June 5, 2008.

Notable because it's the first public exposure of the lies behind the Iraq War, expressing the idea that "facts," were being made up in order to justify the war, i.e. the plans for war came first and then facts were fabricated to fit the situation. Notable because it is an investigation by the military and it focuses on a very select group of neocon warmongers who got themselves on the inside of the Pentagon and were advocate for war, promoting false information. Notable in some ways because Part I, during the Bush years, couldn't even get close to saying the truth and notable because it give high-level formal validation for many of the claims here and in other books and theories, i.e. the war in Iraq was built on lies. (See more info, below)

ONGOING INVESTIGATION: There is another U.S. Congressional investigation going on by the U.S. Congress House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. During the Bush years White House officials have refused to testify in front of this committee (even refusing to acknowledge subpoenas, in some cases).

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was asked to appear before this committee eleven times and never showed up; perhaps with a new president this might change.

LIST OF GOVERNMENT INVESTIGATIONS INTO REASONS FOR THIS IRAQ WAR

Reports and Investigations that considered this specific issue of false intel Iraq, the false claim Saddam Hussein of Iraq was trying to buy yellowcake uranium from Niger, as part of a program to make nuclear weapons, nuke WMD's.

Downing Street Memo (minutes from British Cabinet meeting) that cast doubt on the false intel Iraq.

Although not revealed till May 1, 2005

Bush wanted war; willing to make up facts to fit his plan. There was an increase in covert U.S. military action in Iraq. No legitimate reason for the war under British law (i.e. desire for 'regime change,' not enough of a reason.

July 3, 2003

U. K. House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee Report: "The Decision to Go to War in Iraq," concerning the JIC - Joint intel, intelligence Commission dossier of September, 2002, that somebody rewrote and added false intel to.

report

Concluded 'monkey business' was going on. Warnings challenging the validity of the intel, intelligence were suppressed. The Yellowcake Uranium documents were forged.

At some point it says the CIA told British intel the documents were forged.

January 28, 2004

Hutton Report - Whitewash. An investigation into the death of Dr David Kelly who had been the source for reports made by three BBC journalists that the Government -- particularly the press office of Tony Blair, the Prime Minister -- had knowingly embellished the September Dossier, The White Paper, with misleading exaggerations of Iraq's military capabilities.

It also investigated the 'flaws,' of the BBC in reporting these leaks.

background

Info about false intel in the September Dossier caused the government to demand the BBC identify the source of the leaks.

The BBC was accused of poor journalism. Three top members of the BBC resigned when the report was published

Besides the widespread belief this was a whitewash of the government some remain convinced Dr. Kelly was murdered. Kelly had predicted he'd be 'found dead in the woods,' if his leaking info to the BBC was discovered.

Declared Kelly wasn't deliberately exposed or killed and that his accusations of the White Paper being 'sexed up,' were unfounded.

Declared the White Paper was in line with available intel, intelligence, although the Joint intel, intelligence Committee, chaired by John Scarlett, may have been "subconsciously influenced" by the government.

And it was suggested the government didn't realize the false intel wasn't true, thus clearing the government of any wrongdoing ,all the blame falling on the BBC for publishing Kelly's claims.

U.S. Senate intel, intelligence Committee - "Report of the Select Committee on intel, intelligence on the U.S. intel, intelligence Community's Prewar intel, intelligence Assessments on Iraq" - 'Phase 1

It would take four more years to get the last whitewashed info from this Republican control investigation into false intel Iraq.

It was specifically declared by the Republican chairman that the forged documents claiming Saddam was trying to get yellowcake uranium from Niger would not be investigated by this committee and other key topics never investigated, here.

Very much a whitewash. Nobody did anything wrong. All the false intel was 'reasonable.'

Stepping back, looking at the 'big picture,' an attack will more killed than Pearl Harbor happened, anthrax attacks happened; blamed on al-Qaeda/Saddam but the anthrax eventually traced back to U.S. weapons labs.

Every piece of information told to justify the war: biological, chemical and nuclear WMD and Saddam having links to al-Qaeda was false.

Considering that it's sort of hard to say and hard to believe "nobody did anything wrong."

Even so is very firmly attacked the flaws and distortions of the NIE - National intel, intelligence Estimate of October 2002,

Said the major key judgments in the particularly that Iraq "is reconstituting its nuclear program," "has chemical and biological weapons," was either overstated, or were not supported by, the underlying intel, intelligence, article.

July 14, 2004

U. K Butler Commission - whitewash of the yellowcake claims. While everyone now acknowledges these were forged documents the Butler Commission said that PM Tony Blair and President Bush making the yellowcake claims was reasonable and in fact, 'well-founded."

Note that the first report of the U.S. Senate intel, intelligence Committee (Part 1) that was led by Republicans while Bush was still president said the same thing about the yellowcake claims, that they were reasonable because there was other (false) reports saying the same thing, info.

Lord Butler Statement at Report release

Did say info to justify war was "limited." challenged the idea that the aluminum tubes were for making nukes but (as mentioned) didn't challenge the forged yellowcake documents.

Took 'secret testimony,' about how lies were being fabricated to justify the decision to go to war.

Asked British intel to let them know when they were told by the CIA that the yellowcake claims were forgeries.

October 6, 2004

Iraq Survey Group- Duelfer Report, organized by CIA and Pentagon for weapons inspections, complete report.

The report makes it overwhelmingly clear there was no evidence of programs of either chemical, biological or nuclear weapons of mass destruction, "We were almost all wrong" on Iraq, Duelfer told a Senate panel when he delivered his report. summary

general background information on ISG

David Kay, head of this 1,000 people+ search for weapons said: "Based on the intel, intelligence that existed, I think it was reasonable to reach the conclusion that Iraq posed no imminent threat," but complained of government pressure to 'find something,' and dramatically resigned.

In interviews after his resignation he said he didn't find stockpiles of WMD, or evidence of a nuclear program and he blames the false claims on a greatly flawed intel, intelligence system . Quote: "the intel, intelligence that we went to war on was inaccurate, wrong." story

March 31, 2005

Iraq intel, intelligence Commission - The Niger Yellowcake scandal was due to American intel, intelligence believing "transparently forged documents"

background info
There were "flaws in the letterhead, forged signatures, misspelled words, incorrect titles for individuals and government entities."

September 8, 2006

U.S. Senate Report of the Select Committee on intel, intelligence - "On intel, intelligence on PostWar findings about Iraq's WMD Program and Links to Terrorism and how they compare with PreWar Assessments."

Full copy of this 'phase,' of the report, here.
The dramatic change in information in the NIE - National intel, intelligence Estimate of October, 2002, was noted, but on the false Yellowcake from Niger Claims the report says it was a 'reasonable,' idea (like the Butler Commission also claimed), but that it just overstated what was really know -- and promoted unfounded claims too strongly.

February 9, 2007

DOD Review of the Pre-Iraqi War Activities of the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy -- Douglas Feith, who set up the shadow intel, intelligence Office of Special Plans.

U.S. Senate intel,intelligence Committee's Report

Report of the Select Committee on intel, intelligence on the U.S. intel, intelligence Community's Prewar intel, intelligence Assessments on Iraq. - Conclusion

Highlight quoted below, from here.

One Senator says if we didn't have these lies we wouldn't have voted for the war, here.

Full copy of this report, here.

What it doesn't say is that the Yellowcake Niger Claims were deliberately fabricated lies ordered by the White House,

It was not even allowed to investigate the yellowcake uranium claims!

Not much hard truth could be expected from a Republican controlled committee investigating a Republican White House.

But some facts were learned and, without pointing one finger of guilt at any one specific person, said: "shame on you."

Shame on us if we expect this dog & pony show pretense of justice.

Didn't say it was "wrong" the White house use false, non-existent, unsubstantiated or contradictory intel, intelligence.

Words like "overstated," - "not supported by facts," - "misleading." or "incorrect." were the worst and harshest complaints.

Nobody was really trying to do wrong, it explained.

The idea that Cheney put pressure on the CIA to shape intel, intelligence to fit his desires was dismissed; despite CIA officials saying this, here.

Said the Defense for Policy Group set up in the Pentagon shouldn't have been doing what it was doing, but it also didn't really mean any harm, etc.

"In making the case for war, the Administration repeatedly presented intel, intelligence as fact when in reality it was unsubstantiated, contradicted, or even non-existent. As a result, the American people were led to believe that the threat from Iraq was much greater than actually existed. ... There is no question we all relied on flawed intel, intelligence. But, there is a fundamental difference between relying on incorrect intel, intelligence and deliberately painting a picture to the American people that you know is not fully accurate."
"There was no operational relationship between Al Qaeda and Saddam Hussein... that their public statements did not reflect intel, intelligence they had at the time, and, specifically, that the intel, intelligence community would not confirm any meeting between Iraqi officials and Mohamed Atta -- a claim that was nevertheless publicly repeated."
Typical news story on the release of this conclusion of the Senate intel, intelligence Report.

Powell exaggerated and oversimplified intel, intelligence about the threat Iraq posed before the U.S. invaded the country in March 2003, according to a Senate report, it was reported in Bloomberg news, here.

In their speeches, Bush and his deputies failed to note disagreements among intel, intelligence agencies and made too much of links between former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein and al- Qaeda, said the report, which the Senate intel, intelligence Committee released on its Web site this morning.

The report also found that some administration statements on Iraq's nuclear, chemical, biological weapons capability jibed with U.S. intel, intelligence at the time.

``The report documents significant instances in which the administration went beyond what the intel, intelligence community knew or believed in making public claims,'' Senate intel, intelligence Committee Chairman Jay Rockefeller, a West Virginia Democrat, wrote in the report.

DISPUTES OVER YELLOWCAKE CLAIMS EXPOSED!

NEVER ADMITTED BY THE WHITE HOUSE..

December 18, 2008

House Oversight Committee said it has obtained new evidence that "indicates that the CIA rejected White House efforts to insert the claim that Iraq sought uranium from Africa into two speeches by President Bush and This now links back even to the Sec. of State & Attorney General.

article

No whitewashing here.

"the White House assertions that the CIA had cleared the uranium tidbit were "false." Miscik even called them "misleading."

"The committee has found out from former National Security Council speech writers and others that the CIA objected to the uranium claim in both speeches."

"the information the Oversight Committee has received casts serious doubt on the veracity of the representations that Mr. Gonzales made on behalf of Dr. Rice."

Investigation into the rewriting of the National intel, intelligence Estimate (NIE) of October, 2002.

The declassified October 2002 National intel, intelligence Estimate on Iraq reveals a dramatic shift between intel, intelligence assessments prior to 2002, more information

article
The White House rewrote the Oct. 1, 2002 National intel, intelligence Estimate and then issued that doctored report to Congress on Oct. 4, 2002. The documents suggest that the public relations push for war came before the fabricated intel, intelligence analysis

There have been other important investigations. Sometimes it seems steps towards truth are taken, sometimes it seems a major truth is denied. Sometimes there is an attempt to brush it off as unfortunate mistakes or "group think," gone off track.

These lies are not all just "mistakes, that can be whitewashed or ignored.

Deliberate False intel was made up and used to mislead nations to war.

But there is a collection of forged documents. Who made them? Who planted and distributed them? Who led the rallying cry to proclaim these forged documents their 'smoking gun,' of Saddam trying to make nuclear weapons? Who suppress criticism about the validity of these forged documents?

Hundreds of thousands of people have been killed, millions of lives crippled, $Hundreds of billions of dollars wasted.

There are real war crimes here that demand accountability. If there is no justice now what's to prevent it from happening again?

There is a deliberate hand behind this. It wasn't a shot in the dark. It wasn't a misfire. It wasn't an unintended consequent of a stray bullet.

This truth has yet
to be admitted.

Justice has yet
to be done.

American Citizens Together
is dedicated to seeing truth & justice in this sordid and sad affair, the sources behind the smoking-gun:

False intel Iraq.

The creation, use and promotion of these forged documents about Saddam seeking to buy yellowcake uranium was done deliberately.
